help identifying marks on 1862 German spoon
« on: January 17, 2015, 07:47:05 pm »
Hello all,
I recently came across a small silver spoon (5.25") from my grandmother. It is engraved with her family name, Fahrenholtz, and a year, 1862, although the last digit isn't exactly clear, I believe it is a 2. There are also two stamped marks that I can't seem to identify. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I would also say Kiel, but the square mark I cannot identify too. The closest one, if yours is turned around 180 degrees, is maybe the mark of Hyronimus Puck. Here is a link to many Kiel marks and other German City and maker's marks, maybe you want to look through these pages, too:

(Unfortunately, when you got to that site, there is some advertisement popping up, but it has lots of information!)

What a sweet family heirloom!

It sure resembles the mark used in this area of Germany but the second mark...don't see one like it so far!  The search is still on....
