Mexican silver? Necklace. Tribal masks
« on: January 25, 2015, 12:18:52 pm »
Hi guys,
I'm really hoping you will be able to help me out here. I have a nice necklace that I have had for years. It was filthy when I got it and I never bothered with it until now (son in college, fees to find ::) ). I have washed it with soap and water which has uncovered a Mexico mark. There is a B type shape in the centre of the mark but I can't make out the rest. I have tried polishing this part and it hasn't helped.
The face appears to be onyx but I'm not sure about the other stones. They are cold to the touch and feel glassy on my teeth but they have got an iridescence like tigers eye.
Can anyone suggest what the stones may? Glass? Age of piece? Similar ones I've seen on net are 40s to 60s. Is this later? Any idea of maker? Could it be silver? It feels and looks like silver.
Any help much appreciated.
It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice.

Do not think that is a makers mark, it probably at one time had a figure similar to this which is the "Made in Mexico" seal/symbol !!  However Mexican jewelry is getting pretty collectable !!

Hmmm,, that's odd !! I get to the correct page !! But just google "Hecho en Mexico" and it should take you to the symbol !!  Also look and see if you can find the silver purity mark !! I think theirs is 925,,same as ours is !!

That is the makers mark, it appears from what I can see to be made by Serafin Moctezuma founded in the 1930s but your photo of the mark is difficult for me to see. Mart is correct Mexican Jewelry is very collectable to the right buyer, if indeed made by Serafin Moctezuma I would put a value of around $200.00.

Boy Wendy,, I looked at that and couldn`t get  a thing out of it !! That's the reason I thought it was the symbol on the link that was just worn off !!  Gonna` call you "eagle eyes" !!  :D
