Sprinkle some talcum powder, baby powder or cornstarch on the letters then lightly wipe over the top and see if that will make the letters easier to see !!  I can`t make anything out of them !!

i tried it didn't bring it out any will try slightly cleaning the wood with a ear bud and a bit of water

I sure see H Winder not Ulswater...and I hadn't read all the information prior to seeing that.  After seeing the information posted on the thread I am pretty sure that is what it says.
