Chypre de coty powder box
« on: February 24, 2015, 08:44:50 am »
Hello! First, sorry for the duplicate posts, it wasn't my intention.

My Father got this box from a trade 30 years ago, from a man who's profession was to sell antiques. From what I understand, it says it is a powder box with the scent of "Chypre Coty" perfume. It is silver except for the part which has the text in it, which is iron.
Does anyone have any more info on the box? Thank you!

No worries about the posts - they have been deleted.  Happens to many!  :)

Mart, most of it isn't in English.

Actually you have a ladies' loose powder compact with a scented powder by De Coty insert. Researching if this is a Coty compact.  Many times ladies would just get the refills for their compacts.

Beautiful piece!  Ladies' items such as this are ALWAYS popular and only increase in value over the years.  It appears to be art deco in style.

Are there any markings on the compact itself?

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

We used to have the refills for the pressed powder compacts !! Don`t think I have seen one for the loose powder !! Can remember the ones where you purchased the powder in a larger box and just spoon it into the smaller purse size compact when needed !!

(My previous post that did not go through)

Hey guys, thanks for the hospitality! :D

I have excitedly read what you have said and I will look into it further in a little while.

I'm just posting now to add some more pictures!

Yes, there are some markings. One of them says 33. Is that 1933?
The other marking is a fine print, I can not make any sense of it. Perhaps one of you can.
Also, what about the other side of the compact, it has a paper on it? What was the purpose of that?

Comprimee de colour = compressed color
au Chypre= in Cypru

The rest just says that is is a natural perfumed powder by Coty !!
Around the outside edge are all the colors it is available in !!
So it was a pressed powder refill !!  The paper would have been either stuck on the bottom or on a peel off top !! and I have seen a few that had similar to this in the bottom face up so when all the powder was used you could read it bas a reminder to buy more !!
