Painting
« on: March 04, 2015, 03:20:37 pm »
I have a painting that was my grandmothers, she got it probably in the 1960's. It is trees and woods on canvas. The back says "genuine canvas panel for artists " form M. Grumbacher Inc. out of NY.
The artist name is Briggs that is in the corner. No first initial.
I'm just courious about it, been watching too much antiques road show.
Any ideas where I could find info on it? I searched and there are a few Briggs out there, but don't know which one.
Thanks for any help.
I can post pics if needed.

Yes post pictures. Grumbacher is an art supply company, so anybody can buy canvases from them.

Canvasboard is generally not used by professionals except for quick studies, and preliminary artwork !! Its most often used by hobby artists because its cheap and comes in multiple packages of two for 16X20 size above and three per pkg of smaller sizes !!  You would be hard pressed to go into a gallery and find something for sale that is done on canvas board !!  You didn`t say what state you were in ??

Would be easier to research if we knew where to look !!  Searching the entire U.S for one person named Briggs without anything else to go on is not easy !!
