Hi,

My family recently inherited an antique barn. We are having a blast going through everything. I found what looks like a harness decoration, but I have never seen one this shape. Can anyone give me more information?

Looks as if it originally came from the harness shop down the street from Mrs. O'Leary's barn in Chicago.

The name is spelled differently. It's hard to see in the picture, but its spelled "Galanopolus". The road name is the same though…

The brass (if it even is brass) piece is 6.5" long and 3.75" wide at the widest part. Doesn't that seem huge for a normal harness ornament?

I “lightened” up your photo, see below, … and thus me thinks it is a “belt buckle”.

Note the small “groove” in the center of the top portion.
