1900 - 1970's era Sofa and matching Chair
« on: April 16, 2015, 08:45:00 am »
Help!   Inherited the couch and armchair.  At some point they were professionally re-upholstered.  Can not find any tags or identifiying marks.  Nothing on the bottom, where should I look to help find the makers tags so I can place a resale value.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  - Danielle

The fact that they've been reupholstered is always a bonus, but what you do need to take care about is the fire Regulations. Nor sure where you're located, but over here in the UK if there isn't a label saying that it meets with the current Fire Regulations then your market is extremely limited. Auction houses, charity (thrift) shops can't even take them.
If there is no label, then a maker's name may be embossed on the underside or rear?

I am in the United States - so can sell to anyone - - 1940's sound about right.  There is nothing on the bottom at all.   Just didn't want to feel like an IDIOT FOR selling a $10,000 piece for $350.   Am almost positive this is just your basic reproduction victorian style cameo parlor couch.   Price tag I'm thinking is $350-$400

$350. to $400. is about right since it has been reupholstered !!  I see nothing to indicate a more expensive brand !! Looks like one than most middle income families had in the parlor or living room !!  Looks like it should have a Queen Anne foot which was most common for this style !!
