hand painted dog breed plates by Barnhart
« on: May 30, 2015, 07:31:32 am »
I can't find out anything on the Barnhart studios that hand painted Bavarian China with different dog breeds. Does anyone know more about these plates? I recently bought one with a scene of English Bulldogs and another with a scene of Lhasa apsas.  They are low numbered limited editions and are very finely painted.  Thanks so much

Ditto what Mart put!  :)
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Hi, thanks to all who have replied with helpful suggestions! :-)
But mostly what I've found are sites where one is selling a plate.  What I am looking for and have not yet found is history on the Barnhart studios itself.  Where were these plates painted? What years was the studio in operation, when did it close? What range of dates would the plates I bought be from?  Etc.  I think it's strange that I can't find even a crumb of history.
Anyone have ANY idea??
Thanks again!

Try expanding your search using Bavaria, Bareuther and Waldsassen.

Attaching pics is very easy here !! Just make sure that the pic is correctly sized before you begin !!  When you click to reply it will be at the bottom of the text box,, just click "additional options" and right below the browse line it tells you what size to use for best quality viewing !! When you are ready to post the pics just browse for the correct one, then open it and the file name will be attached, when you are done just click to post them !!
It has been running slow lately so give it plenty of time !!  May take several minutes !!

Here are the pics of one of the dog breed plates. I am trying to find out about the history of the company, the dates when these plates would have been painted. Thanks again.

I don't know why it is so hard to find anything online. It is a US Studio that must have bought quality blanks from Bareuther in Bavaria. But I can't find a darn thing about them either. I spend my entire day as a content writer researching on line. The mark looks fairly modern (1960s or later) probably much later. That would lead me to expect to find something. Very odd. I see a metalworking supply with the same name. No art studio.

Hey, you are so great for doing that research for me. Yes (!) I agree, it is strange that we can't find a crumb of anything on this "studio" and I too had seen that metal works link. Well, that makes two of us. I've tried all sorts of search word combinations and I'm thinking its a dead end albeit a mystery of one.   :-\
Thank you again for your investigations! 😃😃
