E. S. Williams Spinning Wheel
« on: June 28, 2015, 09:03:49 am »
I wanted to share my pride and joy with you. This is my Serenity. She was made in the 1830's by E. S. Williams. I do spin and I do use her.

You're welcome 😊. I am so happy to find a site that has people that love the old items as much as I do.

When I first got her I found a site that covered her history. E. S. Williams married into a family that already made and sold wheels. His first wheel was made aa a gift for his wife. He made them for a short time.
If I remember correctly the farm flooded and that was the end of the production.
I did try to find the site so I could give the dates.

What a fabulous piece of history.  AND the fact that you use it is beyond words!

Quote
It was repaired by the late Bill Ralph, in 1996. It is an identical copy of a Farnham wheel...of Owego, NY. "From Bill Ralph's memory--The Farnham and Williams families joined when a Farnham maried E.S. Williams and he learned from Farnham how to make wheels".

Yes, a beautiful part of history. I thought the site said he made them in the 1830's but I am corrected 1820-1830's. I do remember that it was Farnham's daughter that married Williams.
The wheel was given to me for Christmas. The person got it for a few hundred off eBay. The gentleman that owned it collected wheels. When he passed away his children sold them.

There was nothing said about the restoration. I found out when I noticed that there was something under her when I moved her one day. If I has not put my hand where I had that small part of her history would be unknown.
