information on Pottery Jug / Cup
« on: July 15, 2015, 01:11:39 pm »
Hello
Can anyone help identify this piece.

My grand dad found it at the Reims Cathedral (France) after it was flattened by German forces.

Thankyou!

Brent

Also I should mention I've tried all the different pottery mark websites I could find and didn't find anything similar to this. Seems like a very vague marking.

What is the little writing around the top border !! Did you check to see if it is the date the cathedral was established ??  Could be just what was used there and marked for the founding/est. date

Mart, it is the capacity 1.5L

It appears to me to be a beer pitcher stein.  If it has a small spout (it appears that it might from the picture) it is a pitcher.

Here's some others for you to look at to see some made similar in design to yours:

You could try and look through all of these and see if you locate the makers' mark/design on the bottom next to 1877:

Ahh !!  Sure does have a spout doesn`t it ??  Didn`t notice that !!  I am still having computer problems so can`t look on many sites !!  Having trouble getting to see any of the ebay listings !!  Just going to have to buy a new computer I guess !!  My old 98 is better than this one on many things !!
