Vintage Silver Plated Chinese Statues
« on: July 26, 2015, 06:46:54 pm »
This is couple of what I think are Chinese silver plated figures of Kwan or Quan Yin and a Peacock Stand that I recently purchased at the TS. I've searched for a Kwan Yin with a knife like this one and can't find one and also the Peacock stand which I can't find.

The Kwan Yin measures about 4 1/4" in height and the peacock measures about 14" in height and weighs about 8 pounds.

I purchased them at the same time so I thought the peacock stand may have been used to put the Kwan Yin statue on but I don't know that or even if they are from the same time period.

I was wondering what the knife Kwan Yin is holding signifies and what time period both of the items are from. Also if the peacock stand would have been Chinese made and perhaps a ball park value on them.

Thanks!
Kevin

Also, there are no maker marks anywhere on the items that I can find. I'm including some more images below. Thanks, Kevin

Hi, this is not Kwan Yin but a buddhist deity that is called Mahamayuri or Kujaku Myoo (in Japanese). I would guess your figure comes from Japan.

Mat, wow, you're right, thanks! It's not Kwan Yin, it's a Mahamayuri statue, I hadn't heard of that one before.  A quick search of Mahamayuri revealed a lot of them.
