Decanter
« on: September 22, 2015, 10:10:38 am »
Hi everyone

My Nan recently passed and I've been given a decanter. It's lovely to look at but just wondered if anyone had any information on it?
Also can you identify if it's lead crystal or glass from this video? http://youtu.be/j3qwhw6HOA0

Many thanks!
Ryan

My guess is glass. If the ridges on the decanter are rounded, then it's probably pressed glass. If they're sharp, then it's cut glass.

Well put grasshopper1924.

These have been made abundantly far into history.  The caution with this is determining is yours has lead.  Many were made with lead glass and it was later discovered that alcoholic liquids sitting in them over time would leach the lead into the liquid...and then be injested by those enjoying the spirits.  Thus poisoning them over time.
