Guilty. And the dresser. And...
Lol
I guess I should have said that I'm not buying every antique I see anymore. :-)

"Nutcase?" "Peckerwood?" This doesn't sound like the Jacon I know ;D

Yes, I was referring to that Special Someone from across The Pond. More than one of us "minimized" our presence here back in the day as things became ugly around here. Our returning friend's "disappearance" corresponded with all that; thus my supposition.

In any case, sorry to hear about the ugly divorce behavior......and welcome back!!

Yeah well, you know how it is, some people deserve those terms. I do not deal well with men/boys that display bad behavior, there is no excuse for it.

Thanks, Mart! And you're right about a difference between collecting and just buying once in awhile. I don't seek out antiques or look for them at all anymore. They just kind of cross my path and if the deal is too good to pass up, I'll buy it.

And speaking of bad divorce behavior, my ex got almost all of my pieces 25 years ago, she didn't even like antique furniture however, she knew it was important to me so that was THAT! I swore off collecting forever after that little dealio, naturally, that didn't last very long, maybe 5 years or so. Times change, circumstances too, a brand new day, a brand new deal, prosperity for everyone!

TOTALLY OFF THREAD! but hey, that's how i roll! I came across a gorgeous photo of this rather famous blanket chest today, hopefully i can post it. Striking example of a style change in America around 1700, from carved decoration to painted decoration. It's still got the boxy, joined construction of the pilgrim period but the shallow relief carving, which lasted 100 years during the Jacobean period is gone gone GONE!

That paint is in amazing condition, but I'll take the 17th century over the 18th any time, ha ha.

WELCOME BACK HOSMAN321!  Us "oldies" are still here trying to fill our antique cravings by looking at everyone elses antiques!  (Like you, I keep buying...but only what I need!)

Just bought a 98" sideboard last week!  Burled wood and beautiful!  Might post a pic one day!

That blanket chest almost requires sunglasses!  LOL  Gorgeous!

Yeah, a rather dramatic change no doubt. The above chest was built in Hadley Mass. and, if you google hadley chest you will see a couple dozen chests, all with similar construction which means all built at around the same time, say 1690-1720 or so. Now this Hadley joiner below was not willing to give up the traditional relief carving but, he wasn't gonna get left behind by some dude with a paint brush either! So, he played both ends against the middle and this was his result.
