Sometimes You Hear or Read About This
« on: November 17, 2015, 06:36:17 pm »
I got this picture today at the TS of a Thailand Temple Rubbing (maybe not from a temple). Anyways, when I opened the back of it there was a copy of the DOI! Of course I don't think it's that old, perhaps 50 years or so at the most. But maybe, just maybe? No, I don't think so, anyways, it was fun and a good laugh.

The DOI measures about 16 1/2" in height and about 15" in width. I've looked all over the internet and haven't found the same size one with the "." or "Period" missing after "1776" on the First line in the title. For that matter I haven't found a DOI yet missing the period for this version. I don't see any other marking, credits or anything else unusual yet.

Anyone have a guess as to how old this one might be? :)

Interesting why would someone have used that? Probably visited Philadelphia as a tourist.

Could have been someone having a little TS donation fun or it was just the frame they had and used it. Could have also been a tourist to the Smithsonian in DC, about 45 min to an hour from here.

Mart, not sure of the kind of paper but it seems like it's good quality. Here's some closer images of it below. Click on the images to enlarge and get a closer look.

Thanks greenacres, I know it's not an original. Just trying to figure out which variant it is of one of the every growing list of them. A clue to this one is there is no period or dot after 1776 on the first line that may narrow the list down. I did see a couple of them that way, one looked very old in an old frame but no details were given.

Interesting I was just reading it was really comma at the end. This was done because the document was not really signed on the 4th. Originally it was signed July 19th, hence the comma to extend the 4th to a later date. Learn something new everyday!
