When the hubby and I go to France we see a similar style of chair ever-so-often in France.  They are actually very fun!!!  I can see how they would be popular!
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

You know Gerspee,, this may be something that will sell your chairs !!  Post the story with the chairs !!   Seriously some people will buy them just for the story !!

It may just be a brand name or a style name.

Well at least I got something to sit on  :) But even when it is a fairytale story about the hotel background there must a makers link somewhere to be found ?  And it shows that even respectable auction houses could fall for a provenance without any proof of origin  .  :D

So who could be the maker en are the from the thirties or more recent ?  ::)

Auction houses fall for A LOT more than that, fake decorative pieces are a real problem as they have deadlines to meet, catalogues to write, photo's to shoot, etc. They do the best they can in most cases but they simply can't do the through research or a forensic exam on each piece, that is the buyers responsibility.
