New Purchase...Old Copper Kettle
« on: December 14, 2015, 08:21:20 pm »
I bought a Copper Kettle over Thanksgiving weekend. I have looked on the bottom and cant find a stamp or markings of any kind.

Does anyone have any info that they can share?  BTW...I paid $70.00. Would be interested if I got a good deal.

Thanks,

Jeff

Copper items were seldom if ever "marked" by their maker ..... except for newer pieces made during the past 50 years or so.

My searches found they range from about $55 - $100.  This site had a few ranging in price.  Here is a link to one of the lowest priced just on this site.  It doesn't appear to be in as nice condition as yours.

Were you looking at asking prices or sold prices ??  Big difference !!

LOL !!  Everyone does the same thing !!  They go to these sites and look at the asking/stsrt price and assume that's what they are going to sell for !!  And they might if you have the patience to wait a year or two !!  OK I am stretching it,, but the reality is that most of the items are overpriced and will eventually be marked down if no one bids at the initial listing !!  And usually there are others just like it or better !! I often wonder if people just dream up these numbers !! I try to research everything I sell or buy and keep a realistic price on items !! Most of the ones that are over priced will be a "buy it now" because all they need is one bid !! And chances are they have others just like it or similar !!

Lol!  I need to start doing searches on my PC because my phone doesn't show the sold listings on eBay. I can't find the tab for it.  I have seen you tell others that on here.  Anyway!!!  Thanks again!

It may not show on your phone but on each page of ebay listings,, look in the left margin for completed listings and sold listings !!  That tells you what people are actually paying except on the Best offer accepted !!  It should show those as well but ebay chose not to !!

Thanks for all the info. Maybe not the best purchase but I still like it.

Any thoughts on how old it is?

Thanks again

Jeff   :)

Not a bad buy if you intend on keeping it,, but most that come here have resale values in mind !! For a keeper its a good price !!  I would guess it was made 1940`s or thereabout in France which makes many of the copper items found today !!
