Scale appraisal
« on: June 04, 2016, 02:29:40 pm »
I'm ready to list this scale but can't find one just like it and don't know what to ask for it. Any idea what I could be looking to get out of it?

You have a Chatillon Cent Mercantile Scale

There are cent & nickel ones on eBay with carrying cases. They have been listed from $165  to $80 dollars with no history of sales. They look in better condition than yours.  So I would suggest a staring price below half of the lowest price.

For anyone that sells on ebay !!  These scales are well worth buying !!  I have a similar one but different brand that I weigh my packages on when getting ready to mail !!  They are very accurate !!

Hi Matt,

This type is a little different.  Instead of giving you a weight it tells you how many cent or dollars to to charge.

Actually, this one was designed to weigh the pennies, instead of counting them by hand. For a storekeeper it was intended as a time saver at the end of the day. They usually came with a case and a small metal pan to put the coins in.

I definitely learned something new!!!  Weighing money!  Guess the electric change counters are the modern version today.

Mart, I always thought "penny scales" were the ones that you would weigh yourself on when I was growing up (and you too!)?!?!
