They are obviously dried out and not useful for holding liquids!  :)

My in-laws had lots of them at their cabin that they constructed cushioned tops and were thus cute stools with storage!

"Yes", Pelady, those small barrels are good "decorator" items a nd use to bring good money at auctions and flea markets, etc. They can be re-purposed for different uses.

And ps, if you submerge your 2 barrels in water ..... the staves will probably swell "back up" making them tight or "leak-proof" ...... but not liquid "leak-proof" because me thinks they were used for shipping "dry" materials.

Liquid containing wood barrels had "thick" staves (say 1/2 to 3/4 inch) with their "sides" cut at an angle to insure a "tight" seal when clamped together with the steel hoops.

Agree with cogar about the type of barrel and it wouldn't hurt to try and swell them if you needed to.

Don't believe you will get much if you try and sell.  But the sentimental value for you most likely outweighs that.

On the fatter barrels the staves are even sold separately for repurposing and crafts of all sorts.

Hi Pelady!  Just saw this and wanted to share one I just found on etsy for sale.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/387006782/wooden-nail-keg-vintage-barrell?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=vintage&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=wooden%20barrell&ref=sr_gallery_8

People do use them in decorating.  Some use them in rustic weddings as decor.  They aren't worth a lot but I think they would sell.  As KC said though, to me the sentimental value would be worth more.

I agree Mart!  I love these barrels especially the size Pelady has!  Rusty horseshoes do sell especially with so many doing rustic country the ed weddings!  As a matter of fact, must about anything vintage/rusty sells!  Lol!
