Peg Lamps

These peg lamps rest on "beehive" push-up brass candlesticks that are similar, except that one seems to be the next size up from the other. I think the fonts are milk glass, and the burner wheel has a six-pointed star (sorry about the blurry photo, but if you magnify the 3rd photo you can still see it). I was told by a collector that the short chimneys are original. They certainly seem heavier than what you would find new.

Any ideas on manufacturer? How about value?

I'm going to guess that they are U.S. made, ca. 1860-1880. $400 for the set?

Since things are a bit slow around here, I thought I'd share a little follow-up information about these.

The burners were made by A. and P. Gaudard in France in the 20th century, which (believe it or not) is still in business after some 300 years! Evidently the burners are 20th century, and they've been retrofitted into the older 19th century milk glass fonts and beehive candlesticks.

So what does this do for value? I don't know. I have to think that, since the burners are not original, it would bring it down a bit. I'm thinking maybe $300 for the pair?

Hmmmm, not a clue on value but $150 each seems low to me, even with burners.

I don't really know lamp values but 250 seems more like it to me, 150 would be like what one pays for a china import at the hardware store

I think you are about right Ghopper !! Scroll down to see similar pair except with clear reservoir that sold for $266. They had original burners !!

That doesn't seem right. I know the antique market is still in the dumper, but a pair of 100+ year old peg lamps cheaper than a new lamp from China? It's wrong I tells ya, wrong!

lol, it's wrong but, it is what it is! It's the same for furniture just about, one can buy solid walnut, oak, cherry antique furniture cheaper that sawdust furniture at IKEA.

Gorgeous. I'll take one of each. 

When I lived in New York I'd routinely do research at the New York Historical Society, and they had a whole room full of original Tiffany lamps, most worth $50-$150K each, and there were dozens of them! I used to walk through the room unaccompanied, marveling. There was no guard in the room itself, nothing to keep me from touching the lamps, or even knocking one over. And people say New Yorkers aren't trusting!

If it was a choice Tiffany or Handel,, I would take the Handel any day over Tiffany !!  Did you notice that ring ??  Did it say Gold plat or gold plated ??   The band had a scuff on the bottom !!  Good gold should not scratch !!

I think it said gold plat, whatever that means. I am guessing the 20k price was for that 5 carat diamond, not the ring itself
