Gerspee, I'm having trouble figuring out what the stamping is also, Where is it printed on the gun? Appears to be two proper names, an initial, dot, then another series of letters and then repeated beneath it.
If it is a bone fide flintlock (as opposed to a reproduction) was made probably before 1830, as I believe the percussion cap type of ignition started to be used around that time. A lot of cottage industries made this type of gun for hunting purposes. Quite an interestimg gun. I believe if you can come up with what the stampings are it can be researched further. I'm inclined to say its French but I'm not an expert in that sort of thing. Good luck to you.!
