Does anyone know anything about Hinode wares?
« on: August 11, 2016, 12:22:27 pm »
I have a vase marked simply 'Hinode' in red script, and 'Japan' in green block letters. I have seen several of these for sale lately, all are marked the same.  The design varies in complexity and skill, but is basically the same subject. I have also seen a cup and saucer with the same pattern.
The inside is lusterware, to about 3 inches down from the rim. The outside is a blue matte finish, with moriage in several colors making up the design.
Does anyone know anything about Hinode? All I can find is that in 1876 Hinode was established in NYC for retailing wares from Morimura-Kumi in Tokyo (later to become Noritake Co.) Hinode Co in NYC closed in 1879 and the Morimura Bros and Co was established in its place.
Did Hinode exist as a manufacturing company after the store was closed, or did they have retail operations in other countries? I know that some pieces are marked with the company name for which they were made and sold.
Any guess on the date, maybe from the style of the piece or decoration?

Here is the mark, although it is not very clear.
