souvenir spoon
« on: August 21, 2016, 04:02:59 pm »
This spoon is 4.25" long and stamped ITALY on the back.
Nobody in my family ever went to Italy.

Please post a picture of the back.  Also, please post length of spoon. (Possibly a teaspoon!)

Just because it has "Italy" on the back doesn't mean it is a souvenir spoon purchased there.  Many items were brought in USA and it could have been made in there!

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Back in the 60`s most state fairs had an international area where you could purchase things like this !!  I bought a mosaic bracelet from Italy !!

As stated above, the overall length of the spoon is 4.25"
The bowl part is 1.5" long and 1" wide at the widest point.

I hope the pictures of the spoon are adequate, as I've scanned it of my scanner. haha
... the Mother of invention, as they say.

I do believe that you have a demitasse spoon.  They were generally sold in sets - however many people would only purchase 1 at a time due to cost.  Yours look like it has a speck of silver loss/pitting on the back which devalues it.  Individually in Great shape they are averaging $3.99 - $5.99 in sales these days on a good day.

Here are some for comparison on Etsy

It does look alot like an Edelweiss Mat and Pelady!

Do you remember the movie "The Sound of Music"?  Do you remember the song in the movie where The Captain (Christopher Plummer) is singing Edelweiss, Edelweiss/ every morning you greet me/small and white/clean and bright, etc...

Noe Mart, those are mountain flowers!  They were native in Europe but have been brought to USA as specimen flowers only!

Don't see many mountains in Texas!  :)  Hills yes, Mountains no!  But I still LOVE Texas!!!
