Like looking at mugshots
« on: September 01, 2016, 12:41:55 pm »
I'm taking a break.
Going thru Whosie Wessel's stuff and NAPCO ceramic planters and Noritaki teacups and Lady Head vases must be akin to looking at books upon books of mugshots.
I'm going cross-eyed.

My brother and I foolishly thought we could put together an Estate Sale in 4 weeks.
He's in charge of all tools.
How hard could it be???

Plenty hard if you don't want to fork over 1/3 to an auction house.

We're now shooting for next June.

lol @ next June!

Yeah, It's ALWAYS easier when talking about doing something you have never done before than it is actually doing it. It's tough working outside your lane and usually you end up spending more than what you thought you were gonna save.

lol @ next June!

That's thte PLAN, anyway.
If I don't end up accidentally trashing everything.

Earlier today I was backing up to the area in the living room where I place items on the carpet that I've priced.
When there's enough for a box full, my brother packs it up with bubble wrap.
Soooooooo.......... a sneeze took me by surprise and my hand jerked on the joystick of my electric wheel chair.
I knock over the Abingdon vase, which hit the edge of the Haeger fruit bowl, flipping that into the Hot Chocolate pot, which sent the lid of THAT onto the brown drip stoneware plate!!!!!!!!!!

My brother comes strolling into the room,
"Do I need the vacuum?"
No, thankfully.

I could have won $100,000.00 on AFV.

It was like watching a freaky game of Dominoes/Tiddly Winks.
In S L O W motion.

Darn,, that a youtube for sure !!

When I say don`t sweat the small stuff,,I mean,, take the little gray vase for instance !!  Its going to bring maybe $4. or $5. no matter if you know who made it or not !! So slap a price on it and move on !!

Thanks!!!
Usually it seems to be what goes around comes around for me!!

"... take the little gray vase for instance !!  Its going to bring maybe $4. or $5. no matter if you know who made it or not !! So slap a price on it and move on !!"

But, what if I find out later it's a 14th Century Ming dynasty vase????
I can't take that chance.
I MUST research it.
I'm too OCD.

This is where one can drive yourself crazy. If that's a worry, have someone that knows the objects well take a quick look, they would be able to spot something of great value pretty fast. Separate those from the $5 objects and like Mart says, slap a sticker on it and sell it. If you try to get the last dollar of value, you could end up messing around for years for not much gain.

Don`t worry,, it isn`t !!
What I suggest is to get all the marked items done first !! Put all the unmarked more ordinary things in a box for later !!
And of the marked items,, don`t try to pin down the exact year or try to find an exact match !!  Or try to find some "history" behind each one !!   Rarely will there be one !!  The history starts when it was purchased not when it was made !!  And that is family history !!
And when you tag each item just put a short title to what it is, approx. year and the price !! Like the little lusterware bowl !!  Put "1940`s luster ware fruit bowl,  $8.50" No need to put made in Germany,, assuming your customers can read !!  They will look at the back !!
Where are you located ??  In case you are close,, I have 5 boxes of stick on mailing labels I need to unload !!  Perfect for what you are doing !!

Oooooooooooooooo
Excellent tips!!!
Thank-you!!!!

I have at least 100 small vases, figurines, plates, table lighters, ash trays and various *knicky-knack things I don't even know what they are* to get priced I seem like I'm going in circles sometimes and not getting anything done.
I'm in suburban Chicago.
5 miles from that fooking O'Hare Airport.
