Can anyone verify that this seller is correct about their item?
« on: September 02, 2016, 12:47:39 pm »
My youngest daughter and I were walking in an antique mall near us last week and I just couldn't pass up taking a picture of this to post on the forum.

Notice the description of the item on the tag!  🤔🤔🤔

Coral !!  But that description would make it sell better than just coral !!  And it could be thats what was told to them and they didn`t know better !!

How ironic, eh? If they just described it "as is," they could charge more. It's a dome scratcher!

LOL  We knew it was coral.  Staghorn coral.  But just got very amused that it was listed as petrified seaweed.  Just goes to show that just because an item is listed for sale as "something" doesn't mean that is what it is!

There is such a thing a petrified coral but it isn't white like this (remember the chlorophyll content in seaweed) and is more tan brown.  Typically the ones that have survived are thick columns not the thing pieces like this.

One of the many things that I like to collect is coral/shells/sands from around the world.  I LOVE to find unusual pieces that have shapes/pictures - like you would see when you look at clouds.  On my most recent trip to Hawaii I found this one and the hubby said ughhhh not another one.  But he can't argue with the fact I do love things that are found in nature and FREE!!!

What does this fella' look like to you?

One Labor Day weekend at the Hillsville, Virginia flea market a lady stopped to check out what we had to sell ….. and was all excited to “show n’ tell” me what she had just purchased from another vendor.

She took it out of the plastic bag and held it up in the palm of her hand, proudly saying …..”Look, ...... a Salesman’s Sample spinning wheel".

Jisherf, I thought it looked like a rabbit too!

cogar i have seen way too many people over the years get "taken" for salesman samples.  I am sure there have been a few that were sincere and believed they were samples ~ but believe there are many that found a way to pull one over on some excited/enthusiastic buyers.

Okay, what does this piece of volcanic rock and embedded shell look like?
