is this a vase??
« on: October 07, 2016, 12:07:37 pm »
I doubt this glass thing is older than the 70's.
I've never seen anything like it.

It's 10.5" high and about 10.5" across at widest part.
It's clear, with a ruffle top.
(8 ruffs)  ;D
No markings whatsoever.
No "seams", either, so it must be blown glass.

Bottoms up please !!

*flails my arms around, slapping at mart...
Stop it. Stop it. I told you...
There. Are. No. Marks. Whatsoever!!!
It's perfectly round - 5" diameter
with no bubbles, pitting, cracks, chips or etching.
But if you MUST see the bottom, I guess I could put it on my scanner.
Must I?
=========================================
ok - I got the bottom
 ;D

Oh my goodness....laughed so hard.  When I read Mart's "Bottoms Up Please" I thought she meant it was a drinking glass.

Looks like a mid early '90's bud vase to me.

No, it's much older than 90's.
My brother's wife died in 1997, and they had this for at least 25 years by then.

From the look of it I think 70`s or 80`s is about right !!  Looking at the way its made,,most likely came with  flowers in it !!  Looks like a floral supply type !! Its machine made,, not hand blown !!

My best guess would be this vase was done by Morgantown of West  Virginia, C 1930- 1970 but without finding your actual piece I could not put a definite.  (I have seen many with optics & Colored glass like the photo I have posted but none in clear) Now I'm sure the company did them in clear without the optics  but I have not found one in my library  :)

I have never seen any like those Wendy !!  Don`t know who made them,, thats your area !!  I just remember seeing the clear ones back then !!  They are very thin walled !!  Some did the colored water and floating candle in them back when that was popular !!

Raven's vase almost reminds me of something Princess House would have had. :-\

Update: I just looked at Replacement's listing on page 1 of 18. Go down about 2/3 of the way towards the right hand side and there is a smaller version of a similar looking piece. I didn't venture beyond the first page.

They would be perfect for large headed flowers like roses, peonies, etc.
