Dragonfly Lamp
« on: October 17, 2016, 01:00:47 pm »
Hello All,
I bought this lamp in December 2015, The seller said that she has had it in her possession for many years and that she had the wire upgraded so it can still be used, I was not interested in that as I bought it purely because I liked it, an also I had never seen a one like this before, After trying to find out some information on this I just drew a blank, I have searched Thousands of photos and can't see a one like it, I have come across Tiffany Style Dragonfly Lamps but again none that are like this, it has no makers mark on anywhere that I can see, it is glass with lead holding the glass in, I paid £150 for this and I was happy to pay that, I did advertise for sale just to see what interest I would have, shocked that I was offered £680 I then removed it, Even at £680 I would not sell it as I like it to much (personal preference) any help or information on a one very similar would be great, If more photo's are required I can send them on,

Kind Regards
Mark Anderson

It looks to me like someone made it as a project. It's not a direct copy, like the new Tiffanies, but the work does seem to be hand-done, probably in the 1970s when there was a stained glass revival. I'd say that the high offer you got was exceptional, but if you love it then it's priceless.

Overstock.com has some Tiffany style lamps with stained glass bases that light up !!   Does this one have a light in the base ??

Yep, it looks like this one does indeed have a "lighthouse" base.

I do not think its a project lamp !!  There is a rounded area on the base that would be the pits to get right !!
Can we get a close up pic of the lamp base ??  Its a beautiful lamp,, I would not sell it either !!

An accomplished project lamp, but still a project lamp. That's why Mark (and I, for that matter) can't find any similar models. The base is cylindrical and does not resemble the squat or vase-like lighthouse bases of the Meyda and Dale Tiffany repros, both of which are based on L.C. Tiffany precedents.

I think Mark got his money's worth on this, but I wouldn't value it at a lot more than that.  It's a beautiful lamp, and obviously took the craftsman a considerable amount of time to assemble. I'd keep it, too.

Neither one bears a resemblance to our subject lamp - besides the fact that they're stained glass -  but whatever.

Hello All

Firstly thanks for all the input, I am inclined to go with Ghopper and that it was a project lamp,
here are some more pictures. I will also get a close up of the base once I am home.

Thanks again.
Mark

Didn`t think about it earlier but it possible this lamp done by a professional in an independent stained glass studio !!  We have a studio that does stained glass in the next town and she is always making her own variation of things she sees on the internet !!  If thats the case you will not find another like it !!  Perhaps that is why it looks professionally done by someone who knows the trade !!  Not an amateur for sure !!

I would say a "Custom Mosaic Lamp"!  :)
