the Scott Catalog is the standard for values.  it has images of all stamps.  I'm assuming they're canadian stamps.

as a rule stamps must be unused and unmarked to be really valuable unless it's extremely old and rare then any conditions are alright.

check out ebay too!

Is it a world stamp collection or primarily a Canadian or USA stamp collection.  Was he knowledgable in collecting stamps in that he used hinges to mount them?   I've found stamp collectors/buyers to be more fickle than coin collectors when it comes to condition, etc.  How far do they date back?  I'm assuming they're all cancelled unless he was an advanced collector.  Can you post a picture or two of some of the pages?
