Sleigh
« on: March 11, 2017, 06:00:26 am »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the age and value for this antique sleigh that we ran across in a storage building. Here are some pics. I think this is wood, metal and plaster. The pics are limited to 4mb.

Could we get a bit more information about it ??  Size,,what is it made of,,any markings it may have or anything you find interesting about it !!  This pic is not very sharp,, can you take one of the bottom as well ??  From this pic it looks to be good size !!  Is it carved wood or plaster !! Looks to have a wood bottom with metal runners !!  My guess would be a store display !!
Sorry,, I did not check the other post for pics !!
Maybe KC can combine the two posts !!

Ditto what Mart said!

Mart, the floorboard is wood and the back of the seat appears to be wood.  Hard to tell from the picture about the rest.

Beautiful piece!  My first impression was that it was a store window display item.  (If so, they are collectible.)

Also, being nosy, is that an iron daybed/campaign bed/fainting couch next to it?

Mart, the other post was a duplicate of this one (the crazy thing that happens so often on this site!) Deleted it after verified it was a duplicate.

Sure looks like an early store display unit. (I looked at this earlier, and the post showed another photo with what appeared to be "painted" scenes on the side and rear.)

Rauville, I checked the posting to make sure all photos are showing and this is the only one that I see.

Jamescrawford can you please post more pictures?  Give more detail?  Also, about the piece next to it?  (The reason is I have been looking at antique cast iron daybeds/fainting couches and they can be worth some $$)

Looks different being dusted off. I would take the following dates offered with a grain of salt maybe.

1890-1910 does not seem unrealistic. The painted artwork seems to fall in line with the "cottage" painting that was going on in furniture at the time.

You'd have to give it a good - and careful - cleaning, but I like that $1K asking price! Remarkable item!

The second link that Rauville gave was  from Germany and thats where I think these originated !!  Not American or English and Italy would be a stretch of the imagination !!  It is simply not in the style of those three !!    Am wondering if the size is similar on all of them ??

My humble opinion for what ever it might be worth is that these are Indonesian "Fantasy Creations", made for the Western market. The details are just too crude and too similar to each other to think that these are as old as they are listed as. Once again, that's just my opinion and mine alone probably.

Hey, if Rauville says it, I listen. Respect!

But it's a sad thing, if true. One thing that might help is to look at the screws/fasteners underneath. Are they phillips? If so, then they're fakes.

May be right Rauville !!  That last link you posted was roughly done  !!  But the one posted here did not show that from what I could see !!  We really do need to see how its put together !!
Even if it vis as Rauville says,, it should still sell well as a decorators item !!  This is the first time I have seen these !!  Don`t use sleds much in Texas !!  Just old cardboard boxes  !!
