Gerspee,
I'm practiced at the art of deduction!
First, I took the words that I thought I recognized: Serfaus Ole Fiss Tal. Serfaus is a municipality in the district of Landeck in the Austrian state of Tyrol. And, just to let you know there are 23 languages used there - argh. So, I translated "Ole" and "Tal" from German to English. I ended up with: Serfaus Old Fiss Valley...just lucky I thought.
Well Fiss just happens to be next to Serfaus. Actually, Serfaus is well known as part of the ski-region "Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis", which was formed when Serfaus teamed up with the two nearby municipalities of Fiss and Ladis in 1999. Have a headache yet?
So, then I went up a line where I could read the word, "Alpe". Then I thought I was seeing perhaps, Comperdell Alpe. So, I googled it. There just happens to be a Komperdell Alpe in Serfaus. So, I thought that can't be just coincidence....but, what about the "C" vs "K". It appears that in Germanic languages sometimes the two are interchanged.
In summary, I think your nice oil painting is Austrian. And the tag reads: Comperdell Alpe/Serfaus Ole Fiss Et, OR Komperdell Alpe/Serfaus Old Fiss Valley.
If you can get a better picture of the signature (maybe in outdoor light), we could all take a stab at it.
