Vintage Bunny??
« on: March 03, 2018, 03:32:34 pm »
I bought this Rabbit a while back and i can not seem to find any info on it. It's about 29 1/2 tall. Made up of some composite, feels like plastic but its heavier then that.  I purchased it and it had a tag on it from Dept 56. See Photo. Department 56 can not help me, i was told they dont have records that go back that far. I dont think this is real old, tags says copyright 2000 so, yeah.  I just want to know if this is the right tag for the right product. Really, any info i can get would be great.

How big is that piece?  (Measurements?)

If it is a small table top piece that price doesn't seem right.

Department 56 has made decorations for many seasons but their most popular and collectible is the ones for Christmas.

He said 29 1/2 in. tall !!  Looked at some other large garden, patio, ect statues and they were pretty pricey,,at least for me !!  But that is an MSRP price !! No telling what retail store this came from !!

Just drives me crazy not getting any info from the company itself!  My main goal was to just find out if that tag goes to that item. Anyone can stick a tag on anything.   I plan to resell but i don't want to overprice or under price this piece. Thanks Guys.

Well here is the thing,,its like buying a new car !!  The sticker price on a new car is just a suggestion  about what to ask for it !!  No one ever pays sticker price if they are smart !!  When they sell things like this it is through other retailers so if a store in NY sells it it

I can tell you that price for that size item is way off in my area.  However, like Mart said...it is a suggested retail price for whatever store sold it originally.

It was common practice for a store that prided themselves in selling merchandise at "the best price around" to put such a tag as this with an expensive price on it - then actually sell it for a % off.  Very common practice and makes the consumer feel like they are getting a great deal~!

Your 29 1/2 in. tall rabbit might very well be for an Easter themed store display.

I had, maybe still have it, ....... a green Santa Claus which I am pretty positive was for a Christmas themed store display.

Well, for sure, I still have a picture of it.

OOPS, I should have included what I was told about it.

Quote
Green Santa Claus
He is a typical doll of the (rushton company) of atlanta georgia the trade name could be found on the doll's until the 1940's, ….. bottom of boot's etc., …. this one no rushton trademark, …… late 1940's early 1950's. $75.00 dollars

I find it odd that the company cannot provide you with information because "they don't have records that go back that far".  Usually, these items are either being manufactured or are "retired" and the company should have some idea.   But, the price (on the tag) seems high for the item to me....

Mart, ..... "nope", ..... Santa in a green suit was an American original, to wit:

Quote
History of Santa’s suit

The first appearance of a modern Santa Claus, complete with what we consider to be the Santa suit was in drawings by Thomas Nast. Nast's original drawings were of a small Santa who could slide down chimneys, but his later works made him full size. He was also the first to draw Santa wearing a red suit with fur lining, a nightcap, and a black belt with a large buckle.

Prior to Nast's work, Santa's outfit was tan in color, and it was he that changed it to red, although he also drew Santa in a green suit.

SophieMarie , I must have talked to the wrong person when I contacted them a while back because I asked the company again and they said...
"The item, based on what you describe was most likely made of resin.  It was part of our Spring giftware from probably before 2000 (based on the item number.)"

So I'm happy with that.
