I read about this on the gun forum I read/post every day and the general  opinion was that it wasn't what it was hyped up to be..   In the last five years a small number of very expensive antiques have come to light and hyped.  Two examples:

The Colt .45 Single Action Army Revolver that was used by Wyatt Earp at the O.K. Corral.  This brought IIRC in excess of two hundred thousand dollars.  Never mind that the gun Wyatt used at that time was a S&W .44 American revolver which has been authenticated and is in the hands of a rich collector, and has been for many years.

A Remington .41 caliber derringer that was "in the room when Doc Holiday died of consumption."  The story was hyped in the Denver Post and a lady I Pen Pal with, a member of a museum there, sent me the clipping and asked me if I thought the story was true and they were thinking of buying it and did I think it would be a good buy at a hundred thousand dollars.  The story had all kinds of holes in it and I told her so.  They went ahead and bought the gun and now are suing to get their money back, which I doubt they will.  Moral:  Buy the gun, not the story."

In regard to Jondar's comment:
Years ago, a gun dealer friend of mine came home from a gun show with "Johnny Ringo's" Winchester and Colt SAA, that he had bought for big money. For proof, the guns even came with a yellowed newspaper clipping telling how the Sheriff gathered them up. And don't you know?... that clipping even listed the serial numbers that matched the guns.
With a little checking, both guns were found to be manufactured years after Ringo died. Of course, the so-called newspaper clipping was a complete fake. A small section of an old Arizona paper was used, and the story of "Ringo's guns" was pasted in, a copy was made and then aged.

It is as much or more "bragging rights" ..... as it is "value".

But the cost don't make no never mind to people that has this kinda money to be "flinging" off their fingers, ;D ;D

Knew I had this somewhere, Found it.  Franklin Mint made an exact copy of Wyatt's revolver given to him by the editor of the Tombstone Telegraph (was that the right name?) and a politician I've forgotten his name, for services rendered in keeping the law there.  In about 1986 a man I worked got this informational from the Franklin Mint and knowing I was a gun nut gave it to me.  Price on the copy was three hundred and fifty dollars and I thought long and hard but decided I couldn't afford it.  I think the owners name is given in the copy.  Interesting read.

I assume that meant it was/is a "non-functioning" replica.
