dresden lamp base

Hi,
I have had a beautiful porcelain lamp since 1970.  I do not have any of the history since it was given to me by my Great Aunt when I was a very little girl.  She died about 20 years ago.  My grandparents are gone as well.   I believe that it is Dresden porcelain, but I'm not sure.  It is a lady sitting on a cushioned stool looking into a mirror while her hands are fixing her hair.  She is sitting on a brass(?) base.  The figure is pretty big, about 12" wide and 10" tall.  She has a beautiful gown that is rather full.  Could someone tell me the origins of this lamp.  I took it out of storage to put in my 3 year olds bedroom. I don't know if what you have is Dresden but I will give you some info on Dresden. It may be marked or unmarked, most famous being crossed swords and/or a series of letters. The word Dresden denotes wares that were made in Meissen and Dresden Germany. Other countrys have copied the ware and marks. Later marks usually will have a variation of a crown. You state it as being a lamp so I'm guessing after 1900. Newer pieces are more 'white' than earlier pieces that have a greenish white cast. Earlier figurines have blue or brown eyes. Earlier wares were brown...........Not much to go on for you.

Under lighting section, refine search as figural porcelain lamp.  Prices can be as "low" as $150 ish for an unmarked piece up to, well, thousands.  Suggestion from an old grandma - until you determine the value, perhaps keep the lamp safely packed away?

Tim's advice was great.  And have you looked underneath the felt that covers the bottom?  Marks?  and can you see at all up inside the shaft from underneath?  Best wishes, KB
