« on: January 09, 2006, 02:44:29 pm »
Could anyone give me any information on a McCaskey Safe. We aren't sure of the exact year, but 1918 is stamped on it with the company name. Or if anyone knows who I could contact to get it appraised. my email is jodi@aol.com
thanks

I don't know the value. Most of the older ones I've seen sell go for a few hundred. Prices usually held down because of their weight and mode of transportation. I did fine a little info........ In 1914 the McCaskey Safe Register was introduced; it was insulated and fire proof.  This innovation was brought about by a fire caused by spontaneous combustion of varnish in 1908.  The fire destroyed a large stock of wood registers so a change was needed.  This same year McCaskey took over the American Case and Register Company located in Salem, Ohio, after a string of lawsuits against the latter company for patent infringements.
