I have an old bronze or copper molded picture with a stand attached. It is a woman using a spindle by the fireplace in the kitchen - it is dated and has the manufacturer engraved (can't remember but have to check when I get home). How do I o about researching the company that no longer exists? or even the item which I have never seen anywhere else?

I assume from your description that the pic looks like it was hammered out on the back side to produce a raised up design -

if you know the year then you could google it as -- 1927 copper picture -- if that brings up too many results further define as -- copper picture acme company -- another good search engine I use is www.ask.com

Oh and you can try the term -- bas relief copper plaque -- or bas relief copper picture - - different terms that might work -

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I will try your search engines listes. I believe it is bronze but could be cast iron? I will check the year when I get home today. It is molded like these bookends but the stand is attached to the back and it is early 1900's - I will try to upload a picture later on today - thanks again for your help - I appreciate it

Not sure if my search suggestions would work if your pieces are cast - I was picturing something quite different in my mind - lighter in weight - hangable on the wall - KB

This is extremely heavy. When I was a child, it fell on my back OUCH! I will try to take a pic and post it later. It is really intrigueing me now - I will have to ask my Mom about the family tree - I am beginning to wonder if I could find some answers there - maybe an employee of this company...odd that I can't find greater detail on Mr. Allan with his birthday, city of birth - and I am really dissapointed that you have to pay these .com companies for cencus info.

Now, what exactly is this object? outdoor use - doubtful - could it be something to shield the user from either heat or flame? If so, what? Looks like it would appeal to the housewife - and in the kitchen -

Contact the Chicago Chamber of Commerce if you wish for info on businesses from 1906 as referenced on that site. Maybe they've become something else and are still in business? interesting search. KB

Yeah, it is definitely decorative and nothinglike it out there that I am finding. When I see my Mom I will have to dig into the family tree. Thanks for your help.
