1955 RCA Victor Stereo

Hi,

Not sure how active these forums are... I recently purchased a 1955 RCA Victor 4V-F464 (found those numbers on the orginal business card that this was purchased at)

From what I can tell it was bought new for $535 USD at Routzahns at Hagerstown, MD. from a Glenn Stains.  It has all the orginial documents like the instructions to use it, the two peices that orginally sat on the record player and the 45 adapter.  It sounds wonderful!  It's playing now on a low level.  Within 10 minutes and the tubes were nice and warmed up it had such great tone!  I am the seccond owner as I was talking the the man who first owned this just didnt have room to store it but didnt want it to go in the trash. I gave him my word I would take care of it.  The sound is just amazing.  Theres also some kind of ad with all the differnt models of these.  If someone can tell me anything about this paticular setup I would love to hear about it!  It was purcahsed for $535.00 I can imagine what it's worth now!

You are to be commended on preserving  the past. These will only go up in value as time goes on. The sound in older radio's, hi-fi's, etc. is sometimes better than that on the market today.

The sad news is that, most of them have not come into vogue yet. There are exceptions and I'm not an authority on turntables but most of them don't garner near what they sold for new. I would expect yours to be priced around $150 in a retail shop/mall.

Hold on to it, as the value will eventually go up.

Thanks!  I thought it would be worth more than that! It looks brand new with a few blemishes.  The main reason I posted though was to get info on it.  The search engines bring up nothing on it.  You are right about it sounding better.  Those tubes give it such great tone!  It's already replaced my Magnavox surround sound box.  It looks nicer than having all of those extra speakers, the wood just makes for a better look.  I guess this is the second best from the cherry (its mahganoy) which doesn't exactly help the price.  I am deathly afraid to turn it up as everything is stock on it, even the tubes (unless they were replaced as they all have the rca logos.  Which wouldn't suprise me, as the last owner probably had it serviced.)

None the less, thank you for your help!  If anyone else has some exact information on this model please let me know!  I am willing to take some pictures as I might jar some ones memory (and because it looks so nice)
