Greetings, I'm new to the antique world, but experienced in woodworking and cabinet making. I may have a find on my hands, but I'd like to stick some feelers out to get a gauge from some experts. Here's a description of the product...
Furniture Type: Buffet with hutch (plate holding rail across full width)
Wood: Chestnut
Finish: Hand rubbed wax, nice patina, feels like a few hard thin layers
Size: about 48" wide, 92" tall, 25" deep
Year: 1896
Style: Brittany
Carvings: Detailed carvings covering the work, Giant flowers on each of the side raised panels, Extremely detailed relief carvings depicting a short man and a variety of other people on the four doors, 3d carving of people for the pillars holding up the hutch
Joinery: Double dovetail on both front and back of the drawers, very tight, no noticeable separation, all other joints tight
Defects: Minor split on vertical panel..only noticeable from the back and repaired by an excellent craftsman (no nails)
