Caswell-Runyan Cedar Chest
« on: April 21, 2007, 02:46:49 pm »
I recently purchased a Caswell-Runyan cedar chest. The following information is stenciled on the back: Catalog #3216, No. 9 Tray, Lot No. J 42. The chest measures 46" long x 18.5" wide x 22.5" tall. It still has the original papers on the inside lid showing the original price of $100.00. It also has another original label hanging from inside front giving more information including: "wall to lid protecting hinge, no screws removable from the outside, pegged corners, full length moth proof locked corner construction, patented inside finish to preserve and control aroma flow, built to U.S. government standards, three-quarter inch aromatic cedar used throughout, solid cedar bottoms, finest finish with selected woods applied by a special process polished and rubbed to provide everlasting beauty".

I was hoping to find out what year the cedar "hope" chest was made and how much it is worth.

Thanks for any help or information you may have.

 :)

the fact it's 3/4 board helps date it to the 1930's. $350.00 dollars
