We are new to the antique scene and have found a dinning set we are interested in. The set includes a table with two pull out extensions, six chairs, a vitrine and a buffet server. The wood appears to be unstained due to its light color. In addition I am guessing it is oak because of the pattern of the grain. The joinery on the drawers have a three uneven dovetail construction. The only damage to the items appears to be a slightly worn table top and a leg on the table that has a two and a half inch vertical split on the thickest part of the design. We are looking to pay about $1800 for the set... is that a reasonable amount and how would it be best to repair the damage or prevent it from getting worse?
