8 Emerson Books
« on: January 10, 2008, 04:02:36 pm »
I received 8 Emerson books by somebody who knew I was into poetry.  They weren't sure if they were worth anything, but figured I would be able to appreciate them more than they could.

The books are
1.) Essays
2.) Essays 2nd Series
3.) May-day and other pieces
4.) Miscellaneous
5.) Poems
6.) Representative Men
7.) English Traits
8.) Conduct of Life

The inside page of each of the books has a thin piece of tissue over (not stuck to) a picture of Emerson.  Also, the copyright information is James Monroe and Company 1871 First Series Boston, James Osgood and Company.

They have mold on them, but the mold doesn't seem to have eaten through the binding.  It appears to be all original, not rebound...  Also has some water damage.  My question is first off, what are they worth...  Secondly, does anybody know an average price for restoration and how to locate a reputable expert in book restoration.

Any information on the books would be appreciated.  Thanks.
