Stiffel Lamp
« on: May 31, 2008, 06:27:04 pm »
I just purchased an old brass Stiffel lamp at an auction.  It is marked Stiffel on the neck and has an ill fitting silk/satin shade on it.   It has black spots and stains on the lamp base. I would like to know how to clean it.  Does it need to be resealed after cleaning?  Any information appreciated.

Purchase a can of "Brasso" or equivalent and it should shine up like "a new penny".

For real tough "black spots" one can use EXTRA FINE steel wool and then polish with the Brasso.

It will slowly form a darker patina over several years so its not necessary to "reseal" it unless you want it to stay "looking new". But my opinion, an "old brass Stiffel lamp" really should look a little old.

I am working on it.  There are already several places that look great.  Thank you for your advice.
