Gold Medallion, Not sure what it is
« on: June 23, 2008, 11:27:18 am »
I have this gold medallian with a small hook on the top of it and am not sure what it is or value.  The front of the coin shows a man with his sleeves rolled up and sitting on a fence.  The man appears to have a hat on,but it could be longer hair as well.  The fence posts are capped with triangle caps as well.  The back side of the piece shows nothing.  There is no wording or lettering on the piece.  The piece weighs 4.8 ounces.  If you can help me with this, I would appreciate it greatly.

airbear, I believe what you have there is "pendulum weight" for a mantle clock or a wall clock.

A thin steel rod with a hooked end hangs down from the mechanism and the "weight" hangs on that hook.

That is why the back side is plain ...... because you can only see the front side a "swinging" back n' forth below the clock face.

It is made to easily remove .... because you are suppose to do that before you "move the clock" so as not to damage the mechanism.
