If that's the original frame (which I imagine it is), it adds a lot to the desirability of the painting. You may want to reconsider eBay because you can put a reserve on the painting and it it's not met, you certainly don't have to sell. If you live in or near a large metro area you can probably find a buyer that could pick it up which would save you the hassle of crating. I'll be the first to admit I don't know a lot about these paintings but with the frame and the Illinois watch advertisement, I would think it would be worth some good money. As was stated previously, a good auction house is not cheap. I would seek an experienced appraiser of those types of paintings if it were I and make my selling judgements from there.
