Bow china jug, Stoke-on-trent
« on: March 29, 2009, 05:28:39 pm »
Firstly hello to everyone, i'm a newbie and have only recently acquired an interest in antiques so my knowledge is fairly limited. I have this jug and have tried to find out about it. On the front is a shield with a tree in it, the latin phrase "de sigil dysert" which i believe may mean "the seal of dysart". Dysart is an old town in Scotland that has been more or less swallowed up by the surrounding town of Kirkaldy. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated. It has a makers mark on the bottom which i hope someone will be able to give a date from. I have googled and searched e-bay for current and completed listings and have seen a few things similar but not the same.
