Few Questions about a Special Chair...............
« on: April 14, 2009, 04:32:30 am »
Hello,
I have a couple of questions about a chair I have, it is a cast iron Barber/Dentist chair.

It is from the Army & Navy, I have been lead to believe that it pre-dates WW1.

Has a stamp in the Brass on the back - Craig & Aitkens.

Does anyone have a more specific date/age?
What is it worth?
I am thinking of selling one day down the track as I do not have much room & it hurts when I walk into it.

the chair style is that of the 1870's or 80's. but I'am inclined to believe it's newer than that. it's not American it's Australian

Craig & Aitken 654 George Street, Sydney New South Wales, Australia - hairdresser supply company that was in operation in 1942.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

It was professionally restored about 10-15yrs ago.

I read about Craig & Aitkens online, an article about U.S express going in to financial crisis in 1914.

Your time frame is about right. 1900 to 1920 value wise $250.00 to $ 300.00 Dollars. won't cover the cost of the upholstery.
