History of this unusual, large wooden heraldic button??

I found this large, unusual wooden button, and I've used it in this journal:

As you can see from the pics, it has a heraldic shield/lion design on it. It is a denim blue color and it has some wear.

No markings though. Any guesstimates of its history, age, or worth???
