Thanks for all that info Ayashe!! I will have to look for the Sprandle touchmark to compare it. That was very interesting info about the touchmark on the handle, the shield certainly looks like it could have been a coat of arms, but it is quite worn down. There's no mark on the flower at the bottom of the interior. Thanks very much for digging through your book!

I realized I forgot to provide the dimensions of the tankard. Although I don't know the liquid volume it holds, 4.25" is the diameter of the opening 5.5" is the depth of the interior. The overall exterior dimensions are 7" wide including the handle and 8.5" tall from the bottom to the top of the spire. It's pretty generous volume-wise. One of those "ISs Ok shhhWeetiE, I only dRanK thRee beeRs!" kind of tankards!

Arg, I've looked everywhere for the Sprandel touchmark. Maybe you'll have more luck!  I just get pics of ponies and scooters coming up on google images, lol

Tales, if you do put it up on eBay, maybe you should start with a $5 bid, with no reserve. That's ALWAYS how I make the most on eBay. However, of course the piece may not get very high up there in value, so you should watch the last hour of your auction, then if it still is lower than you'd like, end the auction early. It won't be sold for $23 that way, and I don't think it's at all against eBay's policy.

Hmmm... I hadn't thought of ending the auction early if it doesn't look like it will do well. That's definitely food for thought. I know when you put a reserve in, it tends to drive away bidders.

Yes, reserves drive away bidders like nothing  else. I find that I neglect watching an item just because it has a reserve on it. If you really do decide to put a reserve price, then I would seriously consider putting the price of the reserve somewhere in your auction description.

If you do put it up for sale on e-bay let us know it would be very intresting to watch, beside I may have to dig deep in my pockets and place a bid or two on it myself, would look nice next on one of my shelfs  .  Besides maybe we can help it from going too low  .  Which is against the rules, believe me I know that.  .

Nice info.  OMG does Chris Marshall know stuff or what!  I think the tankard is as old as ale and my only question would be (actually 2 questions)...how much ale does it hold (regjoe asked this) and how long does the ale stay cold?  Those are the REALLY important questions that should matter with any tankard.  Whenever I drink beer out of a stein, tankard, glass, mug, can, or bottle, I really want the vessel to keep the contents cold for the longest time possible except on these hot and humid days when any vessel works because the liquid seems to evaporate faster.
