age of this wash basin set?
« on: July 15, 2009, 01:29:39 am »
I was told that this wash basin set is probably not valuable and that if it was very old it would have markings on the bottoms of the pieces.  My mom wanted me to list it on craiglist for her, but I thought I'd see if anyone had an opinion about it here first. All I know about it is that my grandmother bought it used about 50 years ago, probably in a thrift store. :D  On the smaller pitcher it has the lettering OK 308 ROSE

Antiques Roadshow did a pitcher & basin a while back and as I recall, they did it because they wanted to point out that these don't sell for a whole lot, because they were so common in every household, and because, despite being pretty, they are a personal hygiene item. If I remember correctly, they said that even rare ones don't generally command very high prices.

My mom has a lot of stuff like this and I've convinced her to just keep the things she really loves.  She gets overwhelmed by clutter and I told her I would try to price things and list them on ebay or craigslist for her.  I think she's starting to realize how nice it is to have some free surface area in her house. :)
