Where did these come from?
« on: July 20, 2009, 06:21:30 pm »
So I found these in my mom's attic.  Have no clue where they came from or if they are even worth anything.  Would appreciate it if someone could help me out & give me some info.   Thanks soo much... Lanie

Wow those look cool! I can tell you they are pre-1940, since Siam became Thailand in 1939.

Yes, they are pre-40s, as Tales says. Regarding value, I haven't seen a set like this one, but it is complete, in the box, and looks very good. I can't give a proper estimate since I haven't seen any like it, but at least a few hundred at auction. Anyone think this estimate is too high? -As I said, I am not an expert, just have been to a LOT of auctions :)

Yes every single piece is there.  It's actually a 3 tier wooden box.  I actually looked up what the tag says inside the box & came across this site.  There was another post, not sure when, describing the same exact set of silverware.  However that post did not have any pictures.

Oh wait a sec... check out the first photo. The silk ribbon on the box gives an address of Thailand although the flatware says Siam. Might not be pre-1940 after all, but nostalgic post-1940.

Oh, you're right. Hm, I have a tiny thought, a little stupid, but I dunno. Oh wait- what is the metal? Is it silver?

This is a store that is located across the street from the Sheraton Hotel.  (Great place for tourists to buy.)

The store is still in business (Sheraton Jewelry Ltd.) and most likely this is a great tourist set!!!!

Wow if you want some loose ones I have about 2 Dozen,  You can find these in thrift stores pretty reqular.  I pick them up for about 25 Cents a piece.  I was hoping that one day I would be able to make a set.  They are brass with wooden handles, not sure I could place a value on the whole set, but I would say about 50 cents each and a few dollars since it has a case.  This is just a guess,  but have been finding them over the past few months.

Oh really Ironlord!? I have never seen them, interesting. Okay, so my estimate is probably way too high, but I don't know. I'll leave the rest of this thread to people who know what they're talking about  ;D

Yea I just know I been picking them up cheap, never have seen a full set, It may be higher then that but one can pick up a good set of silverplate for 50.00 or 60.00 dollars, so I would not think it would be much more.  But could be wrong  :P

O.k. just last weekend I did pick up two serving pieces they are a bit different.  These I actually gave 2.99 for the two.  If you like I could keep digging for more but I have boxes and boxes of flatware to go through.  But thought I would show just the most recent ones

Interesting KC.

I sold a set of these on ebay 3 years ago for ~150$

I was surprised they were so popular.. But looking at your finished auctions, it looks like the popularity is waning. Or the economy is affecting them. :)

A bit of both I'm sure dontbe,  Just a year ago it was different.  When I begin collecting silverplate flatware, a good set was $150.00 to $200.00, now look around and you can get a Queen Bess for $50.00 with case.  ;D  just a month ago I walked into a pawn shop asking about any silverplate flatware and he came out with 6 full sets and said $150.00 and they are yours.

Thanks for the info on these pieces, I never gave them much thought and will buy about anything kinda flatware Unique.
