HELP! Unusual Rocking Chair
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:12:20 pm »
I inherited this rocking chair from a relative, and  have never seen this design before.  Any ideas?

I know only what I have learned here on the forum about furniture, but my first impression was a hand made job in someone old Barn.  Wonderful rustic and Folk looking chair.

any markings at all on it?

What part of the world are you in (general) and do you know any history/background of this?

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

There are no markings, stamps, indicias, etc. and I have no history on it.  I have had it for 30 yrs, mostly in storage, cleaning and treating the leather occasionally.  It appears to be mahogany.  But I don't recognize the design... looks sorta medieval-influenced.  Any input would be appreciated.

Just a guess but it looks like it would be at home in a ranch or western type setting.

I agree railman....the only thing that makes this really stand out different than those that I have seen in the "spiral" spindle support beam across the bottom and other parts of the chair.  Very unique and finished...instead of rough like most southwestern or western type furniture.

Guess I better get a rocking chair too, sounds like fun in the upcoming quake, might be better then the 6.2 we had a few years ago.  ;D
