Vintage bottle no one can tell me what it was used for

I disagree with what others have told you....if you look at the German perfume bottles (vintage) you will find many made of colored glass and in figures of animals and people!

the bottle has one thread, indicateing it's a screw cap.

Barker, I think your bottle was made for dispensing some "ingredient" that needed to be refilled often. The single wide thread is like that of a salt or pepper shaker which makes it easy n' quick to take the cap off and put back on. Maybe a table spice or seasoning from the Far East which had an "elephant head" for a company trade mark.

Just a wild guess.

Almost resembles a lime pot, and I suppose the elephant motif would make sense, but I doubt that it actually is one.

    Can I take a guess?  .  been 10 minutes staring and thinking, still haven't descided on a good guess.  cogar made a really good point, a shaker like cap on top, but seems a bit big for salt and / or pepper.  Maybe a talc powder kinda of use, but that is the best guess I can add

I have not found one exactly like yours , with some time spent on it .

By it's size & cap-threads & unknown (by me) vintage , I'd venture a guess that it may be a beverage or syrup container .

How many fluid oz. does it hold , barker2124 ?

Thanks to everyone who has tried to figure out what my bottle really is. I would still like to know what it was used for or what it had in it.
Here is what a bottle expert told me about it.
"Your bottle is not a bottle as much as it is a vase.  It's probably a piece made possibly in Europe.  Looks to be 1920s.   You are going to need to get a fine glass person to look at it."
 I do not know if i agree because i still believe it is a bottle just because of the threads on it. I have posted more info about the  bottle at http://www.junkables.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11
